Biographical history

The Mackezies of Seaforth owned the Isles of Lewis from 1610 until its sale to James Matheson in 1844. As well as owning the Lewis estate, they also held property in Ayr, Kirkcudbright, Ross and Wigtown and Lincoln, England.
