History
Sir Edward Scott was one of Charles, 7th Earl of Dunmore’s bankers. When the Earl was declared bankrupt, Sir Edward, acquired the North Harris Estate from him. Along with his his wife, Lady Emily Scott, Sir Edward lived at Fincastle (Amhuinnshuide Castle) and was succeeded by his son, Sir Samuel Scott. Lord Leverhulme purchased the South Harris Estate in 1919 and in 1920 purchased North Harris from Sir Samuel for £20,000, although Sir Samuel leased Amhuinnshuide for a further 15 years. On Leverhulme’s death, Sir Samuel again purchased the North Harris estate.
