History
Galson-Stornoway Motor Services Ltd was incorporated as a limited liability company on 7 September 1948. It was formed by four separate independent bus owners base in the Borve and Shader areas on the west side of the Isle of Lewis: Malcolm Mackenzie, Angus John Morrison, John Macleod and Malcolm Smith, all of whom were the first directors of the company. By 1965, the company had come under the control of Angus John Morrison who when purchasing the company also took on its £390 debt. The company has remained in the Morrison family and is now managed by Angus’ sons, Calum and Iain Morrison.
When Angus Morrison took over the company, there was only one bus left in operation and he built the fleet up from there. In 2012, they had 14 buses running buses on Comhairle nan Eilean Siar contracts on the westside of Lewis to Stornoway route.
The company operates from it base in Barvas which was erected in 1970 with a further extension added in 1980. Previously, the company had operated from a garage in Church Street, Borve. An original site in Barvas on the junction of Loch Street and Barvas Road with the main road was prepared for a new building but this site was abandoned due to safety concerns on a busy junction.
