This is a rich and extensive collection of papers and correspondence relating to Robert Brown’s role as factor of the Seaforth estate on Lewis and also his involvement in the Uist and Barra estates where he was a trustee and advisor to the troubled Clanranald estates. Brown, although latterly in the employment of the Duke of Hamilton, continued an extensive correspondence with the financially troubled Seaforth estate in an advisory capacity up until the 1830s.
