Malcolm M Macdonald was born in Portnaguran, Point, Isle of Lewis. In March 1870 he signed an agreement entering into employment as a labourer for five years with the Governor & Company of Adventurers of England trading into Hudson’s Bay (later the Hudson’s Bay Company) at a salary of £22 per annum.
