History
Tarbert, Harris Free Church began at the Disruption. At first a catechist was placed in Harris, but almost the entire population had adhered to the Free Church, and a separate church was formed at Tarbert in 1848 and sanctioned in 1860. It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland charge is in the presbytery of Uist and was, until the abolition of synods in 1993, in the synod of Ross, Sutherland and Caithness.
