<bioghist encodinganalog="3.2.2"><p>South Uist and Barra Free Church began with the appointment of a probationer in December 1843, but for twenty years no site for a church could be obtained. The building of a church in 1863 was followed by the sanctioning of the charge in the following year. It passed successively to the United Free Church, as South Uist, and to the Church of Scotland, as Daliburgh. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Uist and the synod of Ross, Sutherland and Caithness. In 1978 South Uist was formed by the union of Daliburgh and South Uist Howmore.
