Scope and content
The Presbytery of Long Island, covering Lewis to Barra, was severed from the Presbytery of Skye in 1724. The Presbytery of Uist was severed from the Presbytery of Lewis by the General Assembly in 1742 and the register of the presbytery begins on the 17th February 1768. Uist formerly sat within the Synod of Glenelg and later of Ross, Sutherland and Caithness. The Presbytary included the parishes of Barra, Benbecula, Carinish, Daliburgh, Howmore, Manish, Scarista and Tarbert.
