<scopecontent encodinganalog="3.3.1"><p>The first recorded mention of the Presbytery of Skye is in 1642, when the General Assembly joined the Presbytery to the Synod of Argyle. The register of the Presbytery begins in 1699. In 1976, with the restructuring of the Presbyteries, it came to form part of the Presbytery of Lochcarron-Skye. The Presbytery of Skye sat within the Synod of Argyle until 1724 when the Synod of Glenelg was disjoined from Argyll and erected as a separate Synod. From this date the Presbytery of Skye fell within the jurisdiction of the Synod of Glenelg and later of Ross Sutherland and Caithness.
The Presbytery of Long Island, covering Lewis to Barra, was severed from the Presbytery of Skye in 1724. The Presbytery of Uist was severed from the Presbytery of Lewis/Long Island by the General Assembly in 1742.
