The Lewis Hospital was formally opened on 1 February 1896 at a site Goathill Road to the east of Stornoway. It undertook routine operations, outpatients and maternity services.
The Lewis County Hospital opened after the 1914-1918 war to treat tuberculosis and infectious diseases and was situated to the north west of the town off Willowglen Road and replaced a previous fever hospital at Sandwick.
Both bospitals closed in 1992 when service transferred to the new Ospadal nan Eilean (Western isles Hospital) on Macaulay road, Stornorway.
